Auckland Arrival

Just a quick post to say we've arrived safely in Auckland, City of Sails. It's clear looking out of our window why they call it that- yachtie heaven.
We had a good flight overnight from HK, Air New Zealand was very comfortable- relatively speaking- and although none of us managed much sleep we were so excited to arrive (11 am local time) we managed to keep going until bedtime. Lucy met us at the airport- great to see her, and she drove us to our apartment hotel which is just up from the Quay in central Auckland. Out of the front window we can see the harbour, out of the back the sky tower (second tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere). A wonderful room (s) to spend 3 nights in. Sim (Lucy's Hubby) picked us up on the way home from work and we went to their lovely 1940s one story timber cladded home for a meal and to meet the children. Really interesting to see the residential areas so close up, in some ways it felt quite familiar and english, in other ways definitely not! Very envious of some of the plants in Lu's garden- Sim says agapanthus are considered as weeds here! Fell into bed later, now feel refreshed and ready to hit the town. (Kids still asleep, Rich and I raring to go!) Spk later all x

Hi Maz
So what do you think of my country babe - not as cool as Chepstow hey. If you drive through Mt Eden my sister lives there - they do loverly cafes there.

Has Rich been to the Ice Bar yet downtown Auckland - little winkie!

If you get a chance Waihiki Island has a fabulous vinyard and restaurant - nice day trip - need to book restaurant - Mudbrick Cafe I think!

Hope you are having fun - when do you do the camping thing? Nothing poisonous in NZ - the last thing was my father's mother and she died 20 years ago so you are safe.

Loads of love to you

Lou, David, Ollie and Katie

Hi family, Just read latest blog, how exciting it all sounds! You 'did good' to find such a nice place to stay. We are fine in the wind and rain- 4inches in 6hrs in Wales! Miller and I have been on 1hr walks every day, trouble is he does'nt seem tired at all, as for me... I'm sure it does me good ?? Lots of filthy wet towels to deal with, we still luv him to bits. He met the sheep up at the deer park today, she came up to say hello, and he was terrified.(she IS twice his size!)In the end he was OK.Have a good day.Luvulots xxxxxxxxxx

Hi Lou, WHY DID YOU LEAVE?! It's so fab and I've only been here 24 hrs! There's so much to do- if only we had more time... but having to factor in chill time as we're still all pretty knackered. Actually Waiheke island is our trip planned tomorrow- with my mate Lucy and her family, should be good. Pick up camper on Thursday- will be a total shock afetr 5 star hotel.....but good for the soul methinks! Good to hear from you, keep posting!

Groovy Grandmama great to hear from you! Even if you are exposing my dog to potentially traumatising situations involving sheep...
All that rain, shame. (Tee hee, smug chuckle!) None here yet, but it is lovley and lusha nd green, so one suspects it does happen sometimes...
